Our Ministries and Community Support

Feed the Hungry

We are know as the “Lasagna Church” to the Frederick Soup Kitchen.  We feed the homeless and hungry typically four times a year.  We include lasagne, garlic bread, salad, fruit, iced tea/coffee/water, and dessert.  Many times the dessert is homemade!  During the pandemic, a smaller team lead by Beth Sweeney continued this ministry by serving people “to go” based on the guidance of the staff at the kitchen. Little Free Pantry

We dedicated and initially filled a Little Free Pantry on Palm Sunday (March 28, 2021).  It is on the northside of the church parking lot about half way up away from the road.  We are looking for community partners to raise awareness and do drives so it can stay well stocked! It is initially filled non-perishable food items, feminine hygiene products, toiletries for adults and children, and  non-food items such as masks, socks, undergarments, etc.  Please help us spread awareness and donate by clicking the button below.  Thank you!

Christmas Gifts for Needy Children

In December, we work with a local elementary school to ask if there are any homeless or impoverished children that we could help at Christmas.  Gail Howard has lead this effort by working with the school. Over the years, we have received a number of families with children and we shop for what is on their list, wrap the gifts, and get them back to the school.  Many families are single-parent households led by a mom.  We enjoy providing some joy to these children and moms that are especially struggling during these times.

Frederick Pride Festival

Each year at the Frederick Pride Festival, our church secures a spot to participate and show our support to the LGBTQ+ Community.  Lead by Beth Sweeney, church members make beaded rainbow-colored bracelets to hand out during the festival.  Each year, we hand out more and more bracelets and make those in the LGBTQ+ community aware that they are loved and are safe to worship with us if they desire.

Burdette Brothers Pontiac Show

Burdette Brothers Used Cars in Hyattstown has held an annual classic car show, featuring Pontiacs, the first Sunday each June. The Burdettes are a local family that has been part of our church for many generations. The last show was in 2021 – we really enjoyed serving food at this show as well as Holy Communion in the morning.  Many have come to this show and get hungry and thirsty!  We cooked hamburgers, hotdogs, and pork BBQ while also serving chips, drinks and homemade goodies.  In the morning, we served breakfast sandwiches and coffee.  This has been a great ministry and fellowship for us as well as a fundraiser in support of our annual retreat to Bethany Beach.  We hope to find another local community event to support in the future.

Special Fundraisers for Specific Needs

In September 2017, Puerto Rico was devastated by Hurricane Maria, a Category 5 storm that hit the island with horrific force.  Our Interim Pastor, Jeff Steinhelfer, had done multiple ministries there to help the needy prior to this storm.  A number of us agreed to join him on a trip to help repair and rebuild.  To do that, we needed to raise money so we held two fundraisers, with the support of Laurienzo Brick Oven Pizza in Hyattstown.  They donated a percentage of the income and we sold raffle tickets and held a silent auction.  In November of 2018, Jeff and two members of our church, along with folks from other churches and groups, traveled to Puerto Rico and made a significant impact rebuilding/repairing some homes that still had major damage.   This fundraiser and the results proved to us that we can hold fundraisers for causes that mean a lot to the community and to the broader world.

Future Ministries

We are looking to future and pairing our gifts with the needs of the community around us.  We are currently working on the following and exploring further ideas:
